Omolara Okunoren
PHD SCHOLAR | WHITE ROSE DOCTORAL TRAINING PARTNERSHIP (WRDTP) | 2025 – 2029
Omolara Okunoren joins the Stuart Hall Foundation after being awarded the 1+3.5 ESRC-funded White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership Studentship at the University of York. She is currently studying a Master’s in Social Research at the University of York, and will then undertake her PhD in Social Policy and Social Work at the University of York.
Omolara graduated with a BA (Hons) in Social Policy and Criminal Justice, where she specialised in intersectional feminism and critical race theory. Omolara’s area of study involves critically analysing the roots of intersecting oppression existing within individual, cultural and institutional levels through an intersectional and Black feminist lens. Her field of interest includes victimisation, violence against women, vulnerability, policing and contemporary debates within the English and Welsh criminal justice system.
Omolara has volunteered for gender equality organisations that advocate for justice and change on local, national and global levels. She has written articles exploring and analysing various forms of discrimination and social oppressions that manifest in an array of levels in contemporary society, such as misogynoir and white supremacy. Omolara is excited and proud to be part of the Stuart Hall Foundation, where she can collaborate with other scholars to envision and create a just and fair society.
