The Stuart Hall Foundation is committed to providing opportunities for students and academics, pursuing themes resonant with the work of Professor Stuart Hall and that of the Foundation.

Acutely aware of the obstacles to achievement in higher education faced by young people from culturally diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds – evidenced by admissions data and the lack of diversity among academic staff – we are working in partnership with universities in the UK and internationally to continue Professor Stuart Hall’s life-long commitment to teaching.

Our network of current and past fellows and scholars have been developing research at the following institutions: Birkbeck, University of London; Ruhr-University Bochum; University of Cape Town; University of Central Lancashire; the Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-East England (CHASE); Technical University of Dortmund; University of East London; the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) and RACE.ED at the University of Edinburgh; Goldsmiths, University of London; the Hutchins Centre of African and African American Research, Harvard University; University of Manchester; Merton College, Oxford University/TORCH, The Oxford Research Centre in Humanities; Queen Mary University London; Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust; University of Sussex; CREAM (Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media), University of Westminster; and the White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership (WRDTP). Recipients of the SHF x Cultural Studies Award and artists who have participated in the Stuart Hall Library Artist Residency are also invited to join the SHF Scholars and Fellows Network.

All scholarships are awarded by our partner institutions, and we are unfortunately not able to offer funding to students pursuing research outside these institutions. Please contact us at info@stuarthallfoundation.org with any inquiries.

All scholars and fellows associated with the Stuart Hall Foundation are mentioned below. Any universities or other institutions not named above, which offer awards or other positions in Stuart Hall’s name, do so without any formal connection to the Stuart Hall Foundation.
