Olivia Shaw-Lovell

PHD SCHOLAR | SCOTTISH GRADUATE SCHOOL FOR ARTS AND HUMANITIES | 2026 – 2030

Olivia is a Jamaican researcher, practitioner, and founder of Men and Women of Destiny Global, a globally awarded NGO supporting over 1,000 women survivors of gender-based violence through healing-centered community engagement, leadership development, and economic empowerment. Her work blends faith, cultural identity, and survivor-centered practice to challenge dominant mental health frameworks that marginalize Caribbean spiritual and cultural realities.

She is pursuing an SGSAH-funded PhD at the University of Edinburgh, exploring faith-informed recovery among Black Caribbean women survivors of gender-based violence. Using narrative methods, ethnographic observation, and collaborative theological reflection, her research seeks to co-create culturally grounded models of healing that inform both policy and practice.

As a Stuart Hall Foundation Fellow, Olivia brings over a decade of grassroots leadership, lived experience, and interdisciplinary scholarship to the Foundation’s community, engaging with questions of faith, culture, resistance, and structural justice, while amplifying approaches to healing that bridge theory and practice.
