The Stuart Hall Foundation is delighted to be continuing to work in partnership with The University of Sussex to offer two funded PGR studentships for the 2024-25 intake to Black, British students to cover fees for up to 4 years per studentship. An additional scholarship will be offered annually in the following 3 years for a single PGR 4 year studentship. Inspired by the life and work of Professor Stuart Hall, SHF has been established to work collaboratively to forge creative partnerships committed to public education and addressing urgent questions of race and inequality in culture and society.

Fees covered under the PGR studentship include:

  • A maintenance allowance for 4 years at UKRI levels (currently at £18,662)
  • UK PhD fees for 4 years
  • Up to £3000 in research and fieldwork costs

PhD applicants eligible to apply this year will have already successfully applied to study from October 2024 at any of the following Schools at Sussex:

  • School of Media, Arts and Humanities
  • School of Global Studies
  • University of Sussex Business School
  • School of Law, Politics and Sociology
  • School of Education and Social Work

The deadline for applications is 1 February 2024, 17:00.
