Stuart Hall MA Scholarship at the University of Sussex – applications now open

The Stuart Hall Foundation is delighted to continue its partnership with the School of Media, Arts and Humanities at the University of Sussex, offering the Stuart Hall Scholarship for a Masters candidate starting in September 2023.

The Scholarship, worth £5,000, will be awarded as a tuition fee reduction to one successful applicant, along with the opportunity to connect with the Scholars and Fellows Network at the Stuart Hall Foundation. To be eligible, applicants must have accepted an offer of a full time place on a Masters in the School of Media, Arts and Humanities starting in September 2023. Applicants must also have or expect to achieve a First Class honours or 2.1 degree from a UK university, or equivalent from an overseas institution.

• Cultural and Creative Industries MA
• Digital Media MA
• Filmmaking MA
• Film Studies MA
• Gender and Media MA
• International Journalism MA
• Journalism and Documentary Practice MA
• Journalism and Media Studies MA
• Media and Cultural Studies MA
• Media Practice for Development and Social Change MA

Please complete the scholarship application form after receiving an offer for an eligible course. Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:

• Academic Performance
• Career Aspirations
• Voluntary/Community Involvement
• Personal Circumstances

Particular interest is shown towards students focusing on areas of interest to Stuart Hall including Postcolonial and Diasporic Modernities; Cultural Studies; Race, Ethnicity and Visual Cultures; Radical Thinking on the Left.

Preference will be given to applicants from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds who intend to pursue a doctoral degree, as they would benefit from from the Stuart Hall Foundation’s Scholars and Fellows Network, which provides access to resources and opportunities that aim to help members develop their career and research profile.
